Magic River Ecolodge 5 day programme
- Magic River Ecolodge 5 days $360.00
Day 1: Lago Agrio – Lodge
Tour start is at 09:30 am from Lago Agrio which allows for arrival with the TAME flight at 9:40 am from Quito. We take a private transport from Lago Agrio to the Cuyabeno park entrance (2 hours). At the park entrance, your guide will provide some general information about the reserve as well as safety advice. From here we start our journey by canoe down the Cuyabeno River until we reach the lodge (2 hours). On the way, we have the opportunity to observe the wide range of the flora and fauna of the primary forest. During a late afternoon visit to the Laguna Grande Lake we may swim and enjoy the beautiful sunset over the lake. We finish the day with a night walk in search of nocturnal creatures.
Day 2: Jungle hike and wildlife observation
In the morning we take a walk of about 2 km (1.24 miles) on a small path through primary forest (3-4 hours) and learn about the complex ecosystem of the rainforest. Our guide will indicate medicinal plants and other plants used by the natives. Later we head back to the camp for lunch and a rest. In the evening we go on an excursion on the Cuyabeno River to spot wildlife and enjoy the surroundings. After dark we take a night excursion in search of caimans.
Day 3: Visit to the indigenous community
Today we travel by motor canoe on the Cuyabeno River downstream for 2 hours until we reach the community of Puerto Victoriano, the cultural center of the Siona indigenous people. Here we get an insight into the Siona culture and their current lifestyle. We will help make bread from manioc root in a family home. Though this cannot be guaranteed, we may have the chance to meet with the local shaman and learn about ancient healing ceremonies. In the late afternoon we take the motor canoe back to our lodge. If there is time, we will visit the Laguna Grande Lake once again.
Day 4: Canoeing and hiking
After a short transfer by motor canoe, we start paddling with our Canadian canoes from the Canangueno Lake towards the Laguna Grande Lake. We explore the flooded forest (Igapó) of the Laguna Grande Lake and observe the characteristic Macrolobium trees and their various epiphytes. We return for lunch to our lodge. In the afternoon we undertake a shorter hike through “tierra firme” (never flooded) forest.
Day 5: Early morning bird watching and return to Lago Agrio
Before sunrise we head out in the in the canoe along the Cuyabeno River to spot birds and then return to the camp for breakfast. During the morning we make the return trip by motor canoe. Once again there are chances of spotting wildlife on our way to the Cuyabeno River Bridge. Our private transport will be waiting to take us back to Lago Agrio, where we arrive at 3:00 pm.
